This past week was High School Cheerleader try-outs and Megan was determined to be a cheerleader. She tried out last year but was turned away because she had an "F" in her grades. Since last year, Megan improved her grades to A's and B's. This last week, she attended every Cheer tryout practice. She even went to the nurses' office on Tuesday, faked an illness, to come home and practice the routine. :) She was really confident this year as she headed into the official tryout session. She actually texted me, "mom, I got this!" She was in the second to last group to try out and came out with a smile and felt really good about it.
We had to wait til the next day to find out if she made it. The waiting was killing me! I can't imagine how Megan was feeling. The names were posted at noon on Friday. Megan called me and said, "mom, I didn't make it!" --- WHAT??? I couldn't believe it. I actually thought she was kidding with me. But, after a little while, her voice cracked and she said "no, mom, really, I didn't make it!"
I was shocked. I still couldnt believe it. She worked so hard. Wanted it so bad. Now, as a parent, this is one of the hardest positions to be in. How do you mend a broken heart? How do explain that sometimes these things happen and you have to accept it and move on??? Oh, it was a horrible situation.
We talked and texted all afternoon. She cried. She slept. She tried to comprehend what went wrong. We may never know why? but my girl is a trooper and this won't get her down. She will think of another goal and she will attain it.......
Her daddy surprised her with flowers, a balloon of pooh holding an umbrella and a card that he wrote in it saying" You can cheer for me anytime or anyplace! Love Dad!" --- That made things a whole lot better! Thanks to Dad!!
