Comments from Kuwait.....

I stole this off Facebook.  It was a comment that Andrew made to one of his friends.....it's good enough to post....."

Everything is ok over here, it's very busy one day, then dull the next. The world is still a crazy place so we're on edge pretty often. I'm fine though, I make a habit of waking up in the morning and raising my middle finger and walking toward the shower trailer, which just so happens to be northeast in direction from my sleep tent, which is conveniently toward Iran just in case they're watching us. (Which they are lol)

The Wave (Jr High Group) at church

At church, Jade and Skyler participate in the Junior High Group called THE WAVE.  They meet on Wednesday evenings for small group bible study.  But, once a month, is fun-filled night to just let loose........  This month's theme was...............

THE TOILET BOWL!

The kids were placed into teams.  Below is Jade and
a few of her friends....

Here is Skyler participating in an event.  He was to
remove the "poop" from the toilet without using
his hands......so gross!!

Here is a view of what Skyler had to remove.
It is actually Mountain Dew and Coconut covered
Marshmellows!! LOL  But, it looks pretty real,
doesn't it!!  You couldn't get me sticking my
head in the toilet!!

This is the Junior High "Hang out" room at our church.
It is loaded with pool tables, video games, couches, etc.

This event was foosball with toilet brushes.

Another event that I remember the kids talking about was throwing toilet bowl
lids over a plunger that was hammered into the ground.  A version of horse shoes.

Skyler and Jade had a blast.  More memories made and they all
had smiles on their faces when they came home.

Briggor and Baseball

Just some random pictures over the course of the last weeks of Briggor playing baseball.
Hope you enjoy......

Spark-A-Rama

Briggor attends AWANAS (Awana is an acronym for: Approved Workmen Are
Not Ashamed) on Wednesday nights at our church.  He was asked this year to join the Sparks Awana Games Team.  He has completed 2 books and is working on his 3rd book this year.  With the completion of 2 books he has learned over 100 bible verses!!  With that many verses, He earned a spot on the team to represent our church.

Our church had 2 teams that participated at the games.
We represented Riverlakes Community Church.
Briggor was in the Circle Two Team.

There were 6 team games over the course of the morning.  So many points were given to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams in each event.  The points would be tallied up at the end of the
morning to see which church won!!
For the previous 5 weeks, Briggor attended practice for these events
every Sunday from 3pm - 5pm to prepare for the events.

Twelve churches from around Kern County participate in this
Spark-A-Rama.

Briggor's Team came in First Overall with the most points from
all the games!!! :)

New Friends

This is Jack. Jack just moved into the neighborhood.
They have became immediate friends.
Everyday, after school, the boys play out front in the cul de sac:
basketball, baseball, riding bikes.....Briggor doesn't want to come in - the only exception is to get a drink of water or a snack.
He just wants to be outside.
Jack and Briggor

They are going to have so much fun together!

What's For Dinner?

This is what is for dinner tonight!  I have a feeling I didn't make enough. :(
I got the recipe from http://www.sixsistersstuff.com/ .
It's super easy to make....try it!
It smells delicious!  It tastes amazing!
I served it just like the picture.
For my big fat family....I doubled the recipe.

Korean Beef

Ingredients:
1 lb lean ground beef
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 Tablespoon sesame oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 - 1 teaspoon crushed red peppers (depending on how spicy you like it)
salt and pepper
1 bunch green onions, diced
Rice, cooked

Directions:
Heat a large skillet over medium heat and brown hamburger with garlic in the sesame oil. Drain most of the fat and add brown sugar, soy sauce, ginger, salt and pepper and red peppers. Simmer for a few minutes to blend the flavors. Serve over steamed rice and top with green onions.

Megan and Scoliosis

About a month ago, Megan was diagnosed with Scoliosis. I first noticed this when Megan was trying on formal dresses.  You can't see it when she is standing up but when she bends over you can definetely see the curve. One shoulder blade stands up more than the other. Megans biggest complaint is that it feels like there is a knot in between her shoulder blades.

Megan was scheduled for a sports physical the beginning of February.  I had her doctor look at it.  Our primary doctor sent us for xrays right away.  The xrays confirmed Scoliosis (see xray below).  Megan cried when we were given the diagnosis. She was scared she was going to have to have surgery or have to wear a brace. She was scared that she would not be able to try-out for cheerleading. It was a bit traumatic.  We just had to wait and see. We were then referred to a orthopedic specialist (Dr. Schopler) at the Southern California Orthopedic Institute here in town to
see what our next step was going to be.

So, today, was the appointment with the specialist. They gave Megan these beautiful, stylish, blue elastic shorts to put on.  One size fits all. They even let her keep them.

She made herself at home and relaxed on the comfortable table.  She was so nervous. She was shaking.

Even through the nervousness, she still had a smile.

We waited so long that she was playing on my IPAD to pass the time.  :)  As mom was taking pictures and Megan was telling me to stop.

Here is a picture of her xray.  She has a 38 degree curve in her back. Dr. Schopler said that he wanted to do a test to see if Megan had stopped growing. That would determine what the next course of action would be.  Plus, Megan got a little excited to know she was going to find out if she was going to grow over 5 feet or not.  LOL

The test to determine growth involved an xray of Megan's hand.  Megan is right-handed so
they took a picture of her left hand.  If she still had more growing to do, the
growth plates would be glowing in the joints of her fingers on the xray.  The growth starts at the
top of her fingers and goes to her wrist. They compare her xrays to xrays in a book that shows the growth of other children her age.  She actually is aging a bit faster than her 15 years.
As you can see from the xray, no glowing areas in the joints which means she is DONE GROWING!  Megan will stay petite! Megan wasn't happy about that.

Dr. Schopler explained to us that Megan's scoliosis will not grow bigger due to growth. So that was a good sign.  He said he is not recommending a brace or surgery.  He wants her to continue with
exercise and stretching. She will still be able to try-out for High School cheerleading this year.  Swimming will be great for her back.  He especially wants her to do Yoga.  He has seen definite improvement in his patients from Yoga.  He would like to see her back in her Senior year of high school for a re-evaluation.  At that time, he will take another xray and see where the curvature is and at what degree.  If her pain increases over the next 2 years, he would like to see her sooner.
But, for now, we continue on.......God was definetely watching over Megan.
Looks like our future will include a little mom/daughter
Yoga time!! :)
